    Default Carb modding tool list

    Carb modding tools.

    One pilot ground drill
    one pilot ground reamer
one plug gauge 5/16 +.001 no go
one thumb screw clamp bearing press
one bottle of cutting fluid. use sparingly please! if it runs out you can use other things, paraffin is old school alu cutting fluid,
one spare 5/16 reamer for opening up a severely tight hole

    Rules:

To get on the list I would like you to be in the U.k or Ireland,

Any overseas guys have to have a separate list and wait till the end sorry.

you must have at least 100 posts and be a trusted valued member! spammers need not apply! and its at my discretion at the end of the day!

application to get on the list should be Pm'd to me 1st I will put you on the list then you can swap addresses with the person who is sending tools forward

If you brake a tool don’t worry just let me know and send them to me and I will try and get them sorted ASAP

    Disclaimer:

I accept no responsibility for misuse of the tools resulting in death or injury to you or your carb!
You are borrowing these tools and therefore take responsibility for using them safely.

Don’t come to me with metal in your eye, or a bust wrist or half a finger missing, I wont be impressed you got blood on my tools

In all seriousness please be careful, wear some glasses or gloves (if appropriate) and just be careful. I've seen to many people get hurt and almost killed, drilling, turning, milling etc and the simplest things lead to some pretty nasty injuries.

Also the tools were cutting size when I used them, if you cut them dry or in a bad way you could easily over size a hole or damage the carb, again this is also at your own risk peeps. its always best to grab an old carb body and do a test cut (although not always possible) if tools are not cutting size (to big) return to me and I will rectify asap.

SO JUST TAKE YOUR TIME PLEASE (not shouting)

please dont post to be on the list here, just use this for pics, help, vids. anything relevant to the mod and tools really, fails, success, blood, gore and also keep people up to date with when you posted and when you received please. cheers

hope it all works out for you guys, have fun

And thank Revhead for asking and getting this ball rolling, top chap, thanks for the bearings

They cut through the carb like it's made of butter. Go easy with the first one. I made a test cut in an old carb first to get a feel for the speed and pressure needed...... it isn't alot

I take my hat off to you guys on this Forum.
Getting this mod up and going, making up a tool kit to do the job and then sharing the tools around to fellow members.
very well done and organized .

It does make it easier when you have the right tools for the job

Cheers fifty Rev has improved on the kit already as well

Simple Depth gauge solution by the way....

Needed small diameter rod, bar etc

Blue tac, or similar or adjustable collar of a throttle brake linkage!

Place the bearing on a flat surface.
Place bar/rod alongside bearing, and press collar or blue tac so it touches top of bearing while bottom of the rod is touching the flat surface!

Lock the collar up or make an impression in the blue tac and put aside for drilling

no bearing so this spacer will have to do... excuse the random dog hair fu kin thing keeps malting and it gets everywhere

    that should make sense

Looks really clean , but the 668 mayeb would need a tad of epoxy glue on the side ??? or something that would be strong and hold it in an actually be possible to take off after you want to repplace the bearing

You could try a small wooden wedge while drilling it??? Having a slower speed and cleaning it out after each cut could improve it. Think i rushed it

I think you will prob find that the original throttle shaft hole isn't exactly put in with a great deal of accuracy. Prob banged in a fixture drilled at a rate of 100's an hour.

Castings are pretty accurate but if there are several factories several fixtures etc etc! Doubt the limit is less than +-0.25mm the butterfly valve can be moved all over because the hole is so big!

My 1st one broke through the side, but both 990's were within the casing!

A guess a blob of araldite on the side will help with seal ??
