    Default hi there

hello, i have just bought an HPI baja 5b,

only had it out once and had great fun, went to take it out again and lost drive, i think the screw through the small pinion gear into the clutch bell shaft wasnt thread locked (or tight enough) and came loose and snapped leaving half of it in the shaft. No biggie as i had a 3 speed gearset on order (which came today)

im also upgrading the brakes and installing hydraulic fronts (with a heavier duty servo) it has a dominator exhaust and a 29cc engine.

fairly stock other than that, i plan to upgrade as things break.

i can see it getting expensive with all the goodies available.

Welcome to BFUK jason enjoy buddy

Those standard pinion bolts always break off m8y HPI should of used a better bolt tbh check the forums for the bolt mod or aftermarket companies like Vertigo do a hex drive clutchbell with alot stronger bolt and nut method

Have a good read through plenty of top tips n tricks for mods that dont cost the earth lol

    thanks for the welcomes,

i wonder if this purchase was a whim as the last rc car i bought (1/10th nitro) about 18 years ago was - had about half a litre of fuel through it.

I didnt even consider buying this one, i was messing around with a mate and his 1/8th nitro one weekend and less than a week later i had bought mine and upgrades and have now spent 850+

yup, time wil tell i guess, we looked at getting one of the smartech new 1/5th hobbies, but they looked pretty poorly made, so we have both bought these baja's - if they do get sold on i think we wont lose a great deal on them, not that im considering selling it of course

i take mine with me in the van,lol
when out and about in firms van,and i see a nice spot,i pull over, have a little rip
parks are ok,watch out for the dogs, they love to chase them
had a staffie once, lock jaw on my baja,i keep going, dog was in tow,he never let go
    must loved it,crazy staffie
well i got lot woods by me,so there most times, also a new building site by tesco, lot crossers and landys go there too
if you race on tarmac, get some road tryes, they last longer, what i did
but when we had the snow, baja loved that, rip around
hope you get a kill switch, and metal spur gear, top list parts to get
this forum is excellent, lot good chaps on here, like haveing them all in your shed, solve the problem
watch out for trees, lol,i killed three bajas, wrote them off, front end smash/twist
lucky i do engineering, made new steel front end, bolt axle back on,and steel roll cage
    cage was 18.from b.q,6 lengths at 3 a metre,10mm tube,welds nice too,tack up on baja,remove,weld proper,paint
you love the baja, make sure you get good premix oil,not the cheap stuff like i did, cost me a piston seize, also if scream it,do 25:1 mix, plenty lube
charge your batts up before go out ,you do fine, have great laugh
i too use to have nitro,1/10 and 1/8,to much like hard work, then went 1/8 lipo, electric ansmann terriers, but only about 20 mins of run time
then went to baja 1/5 ,easy to fix, plenty spares/upgrades out there, simple to drive, should had one from day one really
well good luck, have great summer ,any probs ,post up,the crew on here love a challenge ,lol
