Default Help with the super bee and etronix set up

Just got the super bee setup for my lads baja.
He has an etronix transmitter and receiver (stick type)
Tried to set it up this morning, as it's a two Chanel transmitter i popped the y splitter in off the steering Chanel and dropped the dip switch 1.
Now when I turn off the receiver the built in fail safe operates and brings the servo to neutral but doesn't operate the super bee.
If I turn on the receiver before the handset then it works and won't let me start the engine.

Am I doing something wrong or is the etronix kit not comparable ?
I use the futaba kit in mine and it's always worked like a dream.

    Help

Cheers mate, I'd sort of figured the same. I was hoping there was a way around it but never mind more money required from the tree at the bottom of the garden
