Default Vertigo Performance 'Quick change HD clutch system'

    Hello,
Was pleased to receive Vertigo Performance new clutch system after first putting my name down for one. New I wouldn't be disappointed.
The finish and detail is alot better than others I've seen. The gear plate has no flex . Bearing size in the clutch is larger.

    Whats in the box..
All individually wrapped to stop that shiney billet getting scratched. Nice!

New Vertigo Performance clutch bell V.s Stock clutch bell. As you see in the photos; the clutch bell & pinion gear are 'HD' and also has two access holes for adjustable clutches; Elcon, Laut'b etc. I fitted both clutches and the 'Elcon' lined up better. ( Will double check the Laut'b)

First was to test fit the 'TR single piece brake mount' This needed a skim with the dremel at the back of the brake pin holder which sits in the gear plate. The parts had an interference fit which could be snapped together easy enough.

    Screw holes line up

Be intresting driving with 17/57 ratio as i've been running 19/55 for a few years.Looking forward to 18t 19t pinion gears being released.

This really is a quick release clutch system . Has to be one of the quickest installs ever, eliminating fixtures and screws resulting in a minimal design, stronger unit. (Its stronger than current gear plates available)
The entire system is also lighter than I thought it would be.

Will update after I've given it a blast at Salisbury this weekend.

    Thanks for looking

Looks like a really nicely made piece of kit. Should save loads of time with clutch maintenance.

Can't wait until other gearing options are available.

We considered those using the 4mm brace..
The carrier plate is machined for a 3mm brace however there is an area that was designed to be dremeled off to allow use of the 4mm brace..
Should you choose to go back to a 3mm brace a simple 1mm spacer is all that's needed to do so.

If people are interested in using the Vertigo Losi 12mm hex pinion gears there is a mod that can be done to the carrier.. This opens up gearing option from 18t - 22t immediately.
    Losi gears are 8mm wide..

We are working on some extra parts..
What is needed for the immediate gearing options are:
1 - 15 x 20 x 2.05mm spacer (Can't be thinner than 2mm) between the 32mm bearings. (This spacer eliminates side load of the inner bearing race)
1 - 15 x 20 x 4.5mm spacer on the outside between the pinion gear and the bearing..
1 - Losi 12mm Hex drive pinion gear of choice

The inner bearing takes up the side load when tightening down the pinion gear..

In the future we will include the spacer between bearings however currently the carriers come without the spacer.

    6mm!!!! talk about overkill LOL!!
The carrier can be modified for a 6mm brace as well. Just be sure to measure twice and dremel once though as not to muss up the pristine finish on the carrier

I might be concerned dremeling the brace thinner would defeat the purpose of a spending your hard earned dollars on the thicker brace.
In all honesty, I've never seen an instance of anyone bending the stock 3mm brace.

    Thanks.

When fitting the gear carrier to the TR rear plate there was abit of binding. Need to shave a small piece off the rear plate.

I don't know why any material needed to be shaved, we left 2.5mm of clearance there to accommodate the TR rear plate.

That's good to know. I wasn't sure if the Losi and Baja gears shared the same pitch.

In the past my pinion gear was fixed because the pinion bolt was rounded off.
Didn't bother me to much as I like the gearing 19/55.
The two bolts either side of the pinion gear used to round off too. I increased the left one to a larger size. ( Not enough room to do the right one). Then I realised by drilling a hole through the gear plate I could by-pass these bolts and remove it as one piece to get the clutch.

Left hand bolt was increased first

Then drilled a hole through the gear plate to get to the carrier bolt

    Removed as one piece

Made perfect sence to me when seeing the new VP clutch/gear carrier. Less bolts, easier and quicker to remove + the hex drive.
