    Default spents shorty rail build

right, some of of you know i got the shorty rail off chris,
so starting a build thread ,
so heres a few pics to recap so far ,
    thanks for lookin ,
started with this,it was a tad bent so stripped the powder off it and straightened it out,

modded the cross brace so the 34 reed would fit in there,

stripped and polished some alloy bits, and modified some parts to fit etc,
lots more polishing to do yet though ,

mocked up with engine, rear end etc, then remocked up with all the alloy bits i got from laz ,

then sorted the steering out, and lined the front top plate up,

much more to do but will keep this updated now as and when i get more bits done

weight of the shorty rail is 2.7kg mate, thats just the steel front and rear section with no parts on at all,
i will weigh it when its done and compare to the car the 34 reed is in at the moment ,
i reckon the rail will be lighter overall though ,

Build like this you want to take your time
Better when you have more than one Baja you can at least take that one out why you build this one..

By the way Paul, when it's done, I wouldn't mind seeing a nice side by side shot nenxt to a 5B, to see how much shorter it actually is when built

yeh its the obr 34 reed dan, bought it from dean (baja5b-ss ) a month or two ago,
still in the getting it to run how i want stage with it at moment ,
it was bought from dean with a blown top end ( should point out i already knew it had a blown top end ),
had a new head kit in with the deal, so its been rebuilt and had 4 or 5 tanks through it now ,

Sweet... I've fancied a reed a few times because they seem more powerful, they also seem a bit harder to maintain though, in terms of fine tuning the carbs and stuff, so it's always putme off

Now judging that just roughly compared to when I had my two side by side, the Shorty doesn't look much shorter than a normal Baja, maybe an inch or so?
The difference looks very similar indeed!

i was asked by dan (OHO) what the difference in length was between a stock size baja and the shorty rail,
the answer is from wheel centre to wheel centre about 3 inches ,
overall length is very similar if the baja has no bumper on though,
piccy below, so anyone who's curious can see ,

I was convinced it would be close
Without the front bumper that is, but a stock 5B.
